What To Include In Your Application Essay
Maybe you thought you were finished with school and would never have to think about application essays again. Maybe you've never even completed an application essay. You're probably ready to pull your hair out wondering what in the world you are supposed to say to impress the university admissions committees. The good news is that everything you need is with you all the time - all you have to have are your thoughts and feelings and an ability to get your words on paper. What, though should you include?
The Truth Always tell the truth in your application essay. If you are lying, someone will eventually figure it out. Even if they don't find out until after they admit you to the school, they will still feel disappointed and betrayed. The best thing you can do to create a compelling, high-quality admissions essay is to simply tell the truth. Your Plans Include both your short-term and long-term plans in your admissions essay. Why are you interested in this field? Where do you expect to go from here? Colleges want to know that their students expect to do well and make something of themselves. Your success reflects on your school. Let them know why they should pick you by letting them know where you plan to be in a few years. Why This School? You also want to let the admissions committee know why going to their particular school is important to your plans. Couldn't you get an MBA anywhere? Why does it really matter where you go to business school? What does there school or program have to offer that you can't get anywhere else? Even if it's as simple as a good location, let schools know that you need into their school in order to make your dreams come true. Past Experiences Schools aren't only interested in your past academic experiences. When you are explaining your desire to attend that school and that program, include past experiences, both personal and academic. It's extremely important that you let the committee know who you are and what you stand for. Focus on both types of past experiences so that you seem well-rounded and understanding of what you want out of your degree and out of life. Correct Spelling and Grammar Please include correct spelling and grammar in your application essay. You need to prove to the school that you have what it takes to succeed at their school. Concise, interesting writing as well as proper spelling in grammar will prove that you have both the motivation and capacity to do well at the school and in the real world of work.
