The Value of an MBA
Sometimes it seems like MBAs are the new buzzword. Everyone wants one, or has one, or is trying to get one. And, most of those people don't even know what the purpose of getting an MBA is for most people in the business world. So what is the point? What is the value of an MBA?
Down to the Point The point of an MBA varies for different people. Some people want an MBA for prestige. Others are looking for a quick raise or promotion. Still others are actually interested in honing their leadership and management skills. Some people, on the other hand, simply join programs because their employers will pay or because it's the new cool thing to do. Although the point is different for various people, there are a few things that remain the same. Social Value Having an MBA or any upper level graduate degree, in fact, warrants a certain social value. With the new letters behind your name, people are often willing to give you more respect. They see that you are willing to work hard to meet your goals and they see that you are committed to your work. Additionally, you will make many connections in business school, and the network you create may be of powerful social value. You may find that your new connections open a world of opportunities to you both personally and professionally. The social value of an MBA is often overlooked, but it is certainly very real. Educational Value While getting your MBA, you will be honing your skills. You will be learning techniques to become better at what you do. You will also be preparing yourself for higher education if you so choose. After getting your MBA, it will be much easier for you to go on and get another Master's degree or a Ph.D later. Business Value Once you get your MBA, you will also discover the impact of the business value. You will be more likely to get a promotion and a raise if you have an MBA. Since you will have spent time sharpening your management skills, your employers will believe that you are now more capable to deal with the challenges and pressures of an upper level position. In addition, you will open up a new world of opportunities. Striking out and opening your own business will be easier with an MBA, and you will find that other business owners will treat you with more respect and value your opinion more when they realize the extent of your experience. Unlimited Value The value of an MBA has no limits. You never know when you may find yet another advantage to having an MBA. Consider the social, educational, and business values alone and you will find that an MBA may be just what you need to expand your horizons and enrich your life.
