Registering for the GMAT

Registering for the GMAT is simple if you know where to look. Though you could go to your school's Career Center and get the paper application form, it's better to simply go online and register for the test. We're in a world of computers, so you might as well take advantage of them and register more quickly.

Where To Go

First of all, you want to visit MBA.com and follow the links through the site to register for the GMAT. If you want to access the web page directly, the web site address is www.mba.com/mba/TaketheGMAT. Sounds simple, but if you're trying to remember it later, you'll have better luck remembering MBA.com.

How It Works

Once you get to the web site, you simply follow the links to register for the GMAT. There are several options for registering for the test, changing your test date, etc., so we'll quickly run through each of the options so that when you get to the web site, you won't have any questions.

Checking Seat Availability

One of the great things about the web site is that you can easily check seat availability. You can quickly find out exactly which days are available to test takers and which days all the seats are already full. When you click the link, you will just need to choose your test center, and you will see a calendar that shows which dates are available. When you click on a date, you can then find out whether there are appointments still available for that date. You can also choose specific days of the week (i.e., Mondays) or specific weeks to see what appointments are available.

Scheduling a GMAT Appointment

After finding out what appointments are available, you can schedule a GMAT appointment. When scheduling you will have to double check that an appointment is still available. There are also functions available to reschedule or cancel your GMAT appointment. If you register online, you will have to pay with either a debit or credit card.

Registering as a Test Taker With Disabilities

The makers of the GMAT try to make the test open to everyone by providing reasonable accommodations that are in accordance with the law. Disabilities must be properly documented, and certain accommodations may be available to those with documented disabilities: additional testing time (all tests are timed), additional or extended rest breaks, allowance of a medical device in the testing rooms, a trackball mouse, a reader who can read the test items to the test taker and record test taker responses, a recorder to record test taker responses, enlarged font on the PC monitor, or a sign language interpreter. For more information, visit the MBA.com web site where a full document on the requirements and rules is available.
