Many students have problems with procrastination. Most of the time, it is not because they are lazy, but the fact is, there are things going on around us besides studying that are more appealing.

We get distracted and before you know it we are off doing something other than taking care of our responsibilities as students. This is how late night cramming sessions occur; as I'm sure you are well aware. But fear not! With good time management skills and study habits, you will be well on your way to earning grades that will make you proud!

Be sure to manage your time properly by ensuring school is your priority. Life throws many curves at us, but you must keep your eye on the prize: the degree. First, schedule your classes close together time wise throughout the day with your academic counselor. This will help you later during each day of the semester by providing a good block of time for serious study. Be sure to take time for yourself everyday by implementing good exercise habits and sleep habits. Once you decide on a good schedule, it will take self-discipline to adhere to the block of time you reserved for study. This is key! Of course, exactly what days you choose to study are up to you. For ease in preventing procrastination it might be a good idea to study everyday in small amounts. This way, you will not stress about deadlines or find yourself doing homework on a Saturday night.

Good study habits will be the next step in your success. Use the restroom and grab a glass of water. It sounds funny, but you no longer have an excuse to get up. Then, study each subject for half an hour before moving on to the next classes homework. If possible, keep breaks to ten minutes per hour and be very strict about not getting up until break time. This will keep you mentally alert and your mind fresh. If you like, during your break try doing some sit ups or push ups to get your heart pumping and blood moving at a quicker pace. Doing this will be of course good for you physically, but will assist in waking you up to keep you focused should you get bored. Typically, we procrastinate during this phase because we get bored. So avoid boredom when you study by mixing things up.

If your school offers online programs consider taking a few classes at the ground campus and a few online. The contrast in teaching styles and methods will keep you challenged. Online classes are great especially for those that have a tricky schedule to adhere to. In addition, because there is not much lecture wise as opposed to individual study with online classes, it is imperative to read every assignment. You will be held accountable for this information during tests or in term papers.

With a little planning and a willingness to try new things, your study time will be much more productive. So good luck!
