Can You Go to School and Have a Social Life
Attending college full time and having a quality, fun social life is one of the greatest challenges to attending school. Although you aim to be one of the 300,000 plus people in the United States with an MBA degree that does not mean that you are not allowed to have fun in the process!
In fact, the friendships formed in school may one day be one of your greatest assets in the professional world so why not have fun in an ethical, intelligent way? What does this mean you ask? Well, instead of going out to the bar to meet people and get drunk, why not organize group activities for everyone to become involved in? Part of earning an MBA and then applying what you learned in the real world is being a leader. You can begin this task with your first day of school. Perform some research to find out what types of activities are available in and around the school. Are there softball leagues, bowling leagues or other social events that would appeal to a broad number of people? See, the point in organizing group events is to get everyone thinking in a team mentality. Cohesiveness among students in school provides one of the best educational environments known to the human race. Of course, hanging out with students does not need to be the only way of having a social life. The point is that you need to be responsible for having positive influences in your life that will help you achieve the goals you have set for yourself. Outside of that, the best thing that you can do to have a good school-life balance is to apply good time management skills in your life. There will always be time to have fun, however, the main goal in school is to ensure quality learning. So, as a student, set some goals for you to achieve from the perspective of short-term goals, medium-term goals and long-term goals. The purpose here is to schedule your days, weeks and months so that a little work is accomplished everyday toward these goals. Then, as you complete these goals, you will have the satisfaction of knowing you are well on your way to earning the achievement of an MBA while still having time at the end of the day for fun. As previously mentioned, goals should be broken up into three distinct parts: short, medium and long term. The short-term goals should be created with your daily and weekly activities needed to perform well on quizzes and tests. Medium-term goals will be those set up to help you accomplish success on mid terms and final exams. Finally, your long-term goal is the MBA degree itself. These steps will be put in place to help you finish all schoolwork and thesis work needed to complete the degree. by Michael Chasen
