Advantages of a Part Time Program
Going to business school part-time can be a huge help for many graduate students, especially those with full-time jobs and families. In an effort to keep everyone happy, it can be easy to stress out if you are taking a full class load. Thus, most business school students find that part time programs have more advantages than full-time programs.
Ability to Work Full-Time One of the biggest problems with going to business school full-time is that it may be extremely difficult or impossible to work full-time. Although it may sound simple in theory, you have your time at work, your time in class, and your time studying to account for, not including the time you spend having a life. If you're only going to school part-time, though, this becomes less of a problem. You can easily work full-time and take a class or two a week. Company More Likely to Pay Some companies will not pay for their employees to enter a full-time program, because they are concerned about job productivity. They may be right. Working full-time and going to school part-time will keep you from being stretched too thin so that you are still productive both at work and in school. Less Stress Who wants more stress? Taking full-time classes while working full-time may simply be more than you can handle either physically or mentally. By taking a lighter course load, you can reduce your stress and still finish in a reasonable amount of time. You will be able to continue enjoying family and friends even though you have a full plate. More Family Support You will desperately need your family's support while you're in graduate school. You will be away from them more since you'll be taking classes at night or on weekends, so you need them behind you. Talk to your family and get their support before signing up for a program. Most likely, they will be more supportive if you are with them more and at school less, so a part-time program will be more satisfying for everyone. Less Stress and More Support The most important aspects of a part-time program is that you'll have less stress and more support. Both your family and company will support your decision more if they know that you'll still be giving time to them. At the same time, you will experience less stress when those around you are more satisfied with your decision and you have time to work, study, and play. Keeping a balanced life is essential to your happiness and success both in and out of school.
