Advantages of a Full Time Program
For most students, a full-time program is the way to go. In fact, fewer than 10 percent of graduate students go to business school part-time. Although the low number may seem surprising, there are many good reasons that most graduate students make this choice.
Finish Quickly As soon as you go back to school, the first question you'll begin thinking about is when you will finish. It's just like high school - the main thing you think about is when you'll be out. Going to school part-time can double or triple your anticipated graduation date, while going full-time many students finish in a year to a year-and-a-half. In addition, most business schools have a time limit on how long you can take to finish school. Since you'll be going to school full-time, you'll never have to worry about breaking the time limit since you will automatically finish before your time is up. Skills Remain Sharp You're going to graduate school to hone your skills. You are looking to make yourself more desirable to potential employers or your own employer so that you can get a raise or a promotion. Your skills will remain sharp and you can begin using your new techniques in your daily life when you are going to school full-time. Get a Raise Now Most students go to business school either to get a raise or a promotion. Why wait for your raise? There's no reason to spend years waiting to get your raise when you can get it right now if you finish your MBA quickly. Don't spend time waiting around to finish your degree when finishing it now may have huge career benefits. Guaranteed Program Sometimes your employer's education program can get cut. If you haven't finished the program yet, you may simply be out of luck. You may have to pay for the rest of your education yourself, and you may even owe your employer some money. Finish your degree while your program is still in place and you are guaranteed payment for your education. What's Next? If at all possible, go to business school full-time. If you find that you simply can't go full-time this year, at least start taking a few classes. If you find that you are traveling to much to be part of a local university program, consider applying to an online university. The programs are more flexible and will fit into your schedule more easily. Whatever you do, get your family's support and do what's best for all of you. And, if you can, get your education for free.
